Who is your favorite person in the whole world?
I would have to say my Grandma. She has always been someone I wanted to be when I grow up. She has strong values and beliefs and yet is still open and loving to others. Even when we disagree on matters of political nature, we agree to disagree and she does so with grace. She loves shoes and engages in frequent laughter. Even when my grandpa passed away in 2009, she persevered and continued to be a pillar of strength for the rest of the family. She has experienced some incredibly difficult obstacles and always comes out with a smile and an unburdened heart.
What is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When I was backpacking through Europe, I met this girl, Laura, on a train. She was from Holland, and since I was headed there in a couple weeks, she offered for me to come stay with her. When I arrived at the train station, she met me with her backpack on. She informed me that she was actually leaving town for a bit, but I was welcome to stay at her apartment and use her bike. She handed me the key to her bike lock, apartment, and a map of how to get there. Incredibly selfless! (And fortunately I wasn’t a psycho…) Thankfully I was able to take her out to lunch the day I was leaving and she was coming back.
Do you have any nicknames?
Mel, Mellee, Mel-Bel, Mello, Big Red, Carrot top, Camel
What is your favorite saying?
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined.” – Thoreau *
What is something people would probably like to know about you?
In addition to my plethora of other jobs, I was also a professional Wingwoman. I would go to events or bars with a guy and help him pick up women. It was certainly an interesting experience, and thankfully I can feel pretty confident in any situation. It also provided a great script for a web series!
