Sara Little
Sara began her career as a yoga instructor in 2008 when she was certified by YogaWorks in NYC. A longtime runner and athlete, Sara was immediately drawn to yoga’s physical challenges, but was especially impressed with the calm, steady concentration that resulted in her practice. After studying Journalism and Italian at Syracuse University, she moved to New York and spent several years behind a desk, until her heart eventually called her to teach yoga fulltime.
Sara teaches Vinyasa Yoga – a flowing, powerful, breath-centered practice – with a strong emphasis in the Ashtanga Yoga system. In one-on-one sessions, Sara focuses on building a solid foundation in proper alignment, then challenges students to go deeper by connecting breath and moving with strength and grace. In addition to adapting movements to accommodate injuries and ailments, she skillfully makes yoga accessible and enjoyable for every body.
Sara teaches classes and private clients at several gyms and studios in NYC, and leads yoga retreats around the world from Costa Rica to Italy. She practices Ashtanga Yoga daily and has traveled to Mysore, India to study with Saraswathi and Sharuth Jois. When not teaching or practicing, she writes about traveling, vegetarian cooking and other musings for several publications and on her blog.

If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would it be and who would it be with?
I’ve been a wanderlust traveler since birth, and am blessed to have seen so many places! I’ve always wanted to go to Siberia, Buenos Aires and Istanbul, so I’d say it’s a three-way tie. In all cases, my husband and favorite person ever, Michael, would have to be there too.
Who do you admire?
Madeleine Albright, Anais Nin, David Bowie, and my mom!
Favorite place to spend a day off...
Lost Weekend NYC, a totally amazing, chill coffee shop on the Lower East Side. I love to get a soy latte and just watch cool people glide by!
What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you?
In high school, a friend and I were driving her really old Buick to go whitewater rafting. In the middle of the Oregon high desert, we blew out a tire and were completely stranded (this being the time before cellphones). Out of nowhere stops this huge truck, and a muscly, scary-looking, leathery-faced dude, covered in mud and ripped-up clothes, hops out and changes our tire, without a single word to either of us. It took him all of 15 minutes, then he silently bowed at us, turned around, and drove off. What I remember most about this stranger was a pair of wings tattooed on his shoulder blades (our guardian angel!). What I thought was about to be the end of my life quickly became the kindest, most unconditional gift I’ve ever received.
Favorite saying...
“Without love, without humor, yoga is just a lot of hard work.”
