Pilates

The Pilates method seeks to increase the strength, flexibility and control of the body. Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps to not only build flexibility, but also strength, endurance, and coordination in the legs, abdominals, arms and back. The original six principles of the practice were: concentration, control, center, flow, precision and breathing.

Practicing Pilates on a regular basis helps keep your body centered and grounded, giving you a foundation and strength during times of transition. The benefits of a pilates practice include:

  • Develops the mind-body connection to improve concentration and coordination
  • Emphasizes the coordination of breath with movement to engage the deep core stabilizers; this results in a healthier spine and a stronger place from which to initiate movement in the body
  • Challenges the smaller muscles surrounding joints to assist the larger muscles, resulting in a more balanced body in appearance and feeling
  • Helps break faulty patterns of moving to prevent injury and alleviate common aches, pains and stiffness
  • Develops postural awareness while strengthening the muscles which promote optimal postures for daily life
  • Balances strength and flexibility for a longer, more toned, more efficient body

Praise From Our Clients…

I took a GREAT class today! It was a good mix of stretching and strengthening. Jessica was great. She did some adjustments that gently took me deeper into the poses, and she gave a little shoulder massage at the end that was amazing. I can't wait to do pilates!
